How to Apply Concealer Over Eye Cream Without Creasing
Creased, cakey under-eye concealer is one of the most common makeup frustrations — and it's rarely the concealer's fault. It usually comes down to how the area was prepped and how much product went on. Here's how to get a smooth finish that lasts, especially when you're layering over the Lifting Eye Cream.
Why under-eye makeup creases
Three things cause most creasing: too much product, product applied over a base that hasn't set, and heavy formulas settling into the natural movement of the eye area every time you blink or smile. Fix those and the problem largely disappears.
Step 1: Let your base set first
If you're using the Lifting Eye Cream, this step is doing double duty — it's giving you a visibly smoother, lifted under-eye and a better canvas for makeup. Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin, then wait the full two to three minutes for the micro-film to set before you go near it with concealer. Rushing this is the number one cause of creasing. If you're not using it, still give any eye cream a few minutes to absorb before makeup.
Step 2: Use less than you think
Because the area already looks brighter and smoother once the film has set, you need noticeably less concealer than usual. Start with a tiny amount, placed only where you actually need coverage — typically the inner corner and the darkest part of the shadow — not the whole under-eye.
Step 3: Tap, don't drag
Press and tap the concealer in with a fingertip or a damp sponge rather than sweeping a brush. Tapping builds a thin, even layer that sits on top of the skin instead of being pushed into fine lines.
Step 4: Set lightly and only where needed
A very fine dusting of setting powder, pressed (not swept) over just the concealer, helps it stay put. Too much powder is its own cause of a dry, cakey look — so keep it minimal, especially if your skin leans dry.
Step 5: For a long day, refresh smart
If you're out from morning to night, a light re-press with a clean sponge beats piling on more product. And for a completely fresh start before an evening event, you can gently cleanse the area and reapply the lift and a thin layer of concealer.
The short version
Smooth under-eye makeup is mostly about restraint: a well-set base, a small amount of concealer, tapped in and lightly set. Starting from an under-eye that already looks lifted and smoother makes all of it easier — which is why so many people use the two-minute lift as their makeup prep step.
