How Mineral Silicates Create an Instant Eye Lift: The Science of the Micro-Film

Most eye creams ask you to wait weeks for results. An instant eye lift works on a completely different principle — and it isn't magic, it's materials science. The key players are mineral silicates and hydrolysed proteins, and understanding how they work makes it much easier to get the best out of them.

What are mineral silicates?

Silicates are naturally occurring minerals built from silicon and oxygen — the same family of materials found in clays and volcanic rock. In cosmetics, purified forms such as sodium silicate and magnesium aluminium silicate have a useful talent: when a thin layer of them dries on the skin, the particles draw closer together and form a fine, flexible lattice.

On its own, that lattice would feel too tight. That's where hydrolysed proteins come in. These are proteins broken down into smaller fragments that sit comfortably on the skin and act a bit like the flexible mesh in a woven fabric — they give the silicate film elasticity, so it moves with you rather than sitting stiffly on top.

The micro-film: what actually happens in two minutes

  • Go gently with makeup. Once set, pat — don't rub — concealer over the top.

Is it suitable for everyone?

The micro-film is for external use only around the eye area — avoid getting it into the eyes themselves.
